Young Professional Mayoral Forum, Tuesday August 30th, 6:30pm-9pm.
The Knox County Young Republican Federation is pleased to announce that we will be co-hosting a forum for all candidates running for Mayor of Knoxville, focused on young professionals.
Joining us as co-hosts are: The Young Professionals of Knoxville, Young Professional Democrats of East Tennessee, and Knoxville Overground.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with an open time for city council candidates to meet and greet followed by a presentation by Lesgue of Women Voters of Knoxville/Knox County. The mayoral forum is scheduled for an 8 p.m. start. We welcome all citizens to attend, regardless of age.
BREAKING: Marilyn Roddy has announced that she is stepping out of the race for Mayor of Knoxville and will be seeking the 6th district State Senate seat.
She will not be able to use any money raised for the Mayor’s race in her run for the State Senate seat.
Interestingly, this leaves Ivan Harmon as the only Republican candidate in the race for Mayor of Knoxville.

As officials on Wednesday continued looking into a divisive plan to control growth along the county’s hillsides, some wondered whether the Knoxville area would be just as well off if development rules already in place were better enforced.
‘I don’t think we’re as far apart as a lot of people think we are,’ Knox County Commissioner Richard Briggs said at a morning meeting to review the plan. ‘It’s just how to get there and what’s the best way to get there.’

Former County Commissioner Pinkston is asking Knox County to pick up the legal bill for defending himself in an ouster suit:
“I’m not guilty of anything,” said the South Knox Countian, who is no longer in office, having been defeated in last year’s election. He said former Law Director John Owings told him that the county would pay his fees if he won the case.
A round-up of red light camera news in the state legislature where there are three primary bills between the House and Senate:
- Rep Ryan Haynes (a Knox County YR) has one to eliminate the rolling right turn on red violation state wide.
- Senator Stacey Campfield introduced a bill that is basically the same as Haynes, but applied to Knox County only.
- Rep John Ragan filed House Bill 33, which would require 95 percent of revenue from red-light cameras be earmarked “solely for educational needs.” That would likely eliminate the cameras from a practical standpoint by removing the revenue incentive the cameras have.
